Prepare to have your taste buds tickled at York Food and Drink Festival, the UK’s biggest culinary festival which takes place in the city every September or the St Nicholas Christmas Festival in November and December. You absolutely cannot miss the mouth-watering cakes at the world-famous Betty’s Tea Room’s, and for a pint with a difference, head to Ye Olde Starre Inne – York’s oldest licensed pub – or The Golden Fleece – the most haunted pub in the city.
Shopping
York is home to some of the prettiest shopping streets in Britain. The cobbled Shambles is York’s oldest street and an attraction in its own right, but be sure to check out its boutiques too. The history continues at Stonegate, where gift shops, jewelers, and antique shops occupy the medieval buildings. Fancy something a little more modern? Head to York Designer Outlet, where you’ll find various famous designers, or there is also Vangarde shopping complex and Monks Cross Shopping centre where there are a variety of shops, and eateries to choose from.
